The World Behind the Work

My work is rooted in personal experience and explores themes of creative expression, self-understanding and identity.

Visual characteristics play a large role in everyday life, subconsciously the mind takes in hundreds of visual, auditory and sensory stimuli each day to form ideas and an understanding of the world around us. My work is another form of visual stimuli but rather than being overloaded, it is stripped back to the main elements to showcase a specific theme or idea.

The main theme in my work is colours, tone and hue. The brighter the colours used in any given situation highlight the increase in positivity that is felt, in contrast with the darker colours such as blue, blacks and greys, symbolising the negativity that is being drawn on. I use this concept as a tool in my artistic practice and draw on works that begin and end with a singular colour scheme. Thus making the concepts and ideas abundantly clear through hue and saturation. while this isn’t relative to all works, this is a practice I take forward when beginning any personal project and I hope to develop this further in my upcoming works.
